About Our Store

Where are we?

Mollie's Loft Books is situated in the verdant Swansea Valley in South Wales, midway between the glories of the Gower peninsula, which sits on the northern shore of the Bristol Channel, and the Brecon Beacons, a windswept rugged expanse of craggy hills and isolated sheep farms.

We're just 50 miles south west of Hay on Wye, the Welsh Booktown, which is convenient for the occasional scouting trip.

Why are we?

Why are we called Mollie's Loft? Well, up until the end of 2001 we used to operate from an open bookshop which was three-storey and had a hayloft. We called it Mollie's because the lady who had owned it for the past many years, until her death in 1989, was called Mollie.

Who are we?

This is where we lose the Imperial 'we'. I'm Martin Evans, a graduate chemist born in 1946. I spent the first fourteen years of my working life in technical sales of one kind or another, working for British, French and American companies.

In 1982, together with a business partner, I set up an engineering company which we built up over the years and sold in 2004.

Now in a position to indulge my passion for books,I opened a shop in 1990, and went internet-only at the end of 2001, when it had become clear that this was to be the way forward in bookselling for the forseeable future.
