HMSO 1941 Good No Jacket
A good book with owner's inscription and naval inkstamp inside front page, together with a few small part-drawings on the facing endpaper. Front & rear endpapers heavily dusty-fingered, though the text pages themselves are good and clean. Blank lined paper bound in at the rear for notes, the first three leaves of which have been cleanly removed. The remaining two leaves are unmarked. 226 pages, no DJ. Light edge rub, nasty abrasion through the cloth on rear joint about 2" down from top. Front joint split for about 4" of its length (my fault, happened while cleaning the book!) This book has history, owned by my father-in-law, who was an engineering petty officer on a minesweeper during the latter part of the war, so it's the real McCoy!

Lavishly illustrated, mainly in monochrome. Still interesting - the Dynosaurs are amusingly out of date, but from the Egyptians onwards it's still an engaging & informative read.

Amalgamated Press 1938 Hard Cover Reading Copy No Jacket
A reading copy. Title page missing - there's the front endpaper (with previous owner's name & address), followed by the first photograph, which is Tyrone Power. Pictures are complete, (160 of them) ending with Arthur Tracy. No copyright info, of course, so no definite date, but probably late 30s. Can't be later than 1938 because Vivien Leigh's credits don't include "Gone with the Wind" which was released in 1939. Burgundy coloured covers rubbed & marked.

Covers Astrology, cards, tea-leaves, palmistry, phrenology & other methods. Don''t know who wrote this, but since there's no mention of the imminent world war, he can't have been much of a fortune-teller.

A 96 page booklet with 164 drawings & photographs with descriptions of German & Italian aircraft of WWII. Covers missing, rest is good and flat with just a little wear to top and bottom of outer sheet of booklet (which is the title page) at spine. Judging by a tiny residue of paper under a staple, the outer cover was royal blue. Undated but clearly wartime.
