A brand new book purchase directly from the author in person and the last remaining stock of this item. 94 pages, square format. 9 chapters, 2 appendices, index to illustrations. Heavily illustrated with colour photographs of individual items, together with a number of monochrome reproductions of old paintings, photographs of locations etc. The Glamorgan Pottery, a small factory on the banks of the river Tawe in Swansea, was opened in 1814. It operated for only twenty-four years but produced a range and quality of wares which few factories of comparable size were able to match. The names of Baker, Bevans and Irwin, the proprietors, appear on many of the beautiful pieces which have survived, but the name of George Haynes, its founder, who made such a success of the pottery venture, has not hitherto been so well known. This study gives George Haynes and the remarkable achievements at 'his' pottery the attention they deserve. Collectors will be delighted by the wealth of illustrations in this volume, many being of previously unrecorded pieces. In researching her material, the author made one outstanding find - a workman's book which is a comprehensive guide to the sizes, shapes and designs produced at the Glamorgan; it even gives details of kilns used. It was a discovery which informed and enriched this important workó the first volume of reference devoted to the history and the wares of the Glamorgan Pottery An essential work for the Glamorgan Pottery collector, written by an acknowledged expert. Only a few copies available.
