Edition   Sixth Edition.

A very good example of the Sixth edition (Thirty fifth thousand) 1888 of this classic work. Light rub to edges of covers, a little more on the tips. Good sound joints, paper on hinges splitting but still tight. ** Signed by H Muriel Hawley, dated Dec /88 on verso of FFEP. Mistress Hawley lived in Kilcronach, Waterford, and was the aunt of Private Edward Hawley who was killed in 1917 at the battle for Vimy Ridge. ** This sixth edition (first appearing in 1872) is remembered for being the last edition edited by Darwin himself before his death in 1882; It is the first edition of this work in which the word "evolution" appears, though it is not his first use of the word. ** An opportunity to acquire the definitive edition of Darwin's opus, uncommon to find in such a good little-worn condition.
